Chief Executive Officer at N&M Consultancy Ltd
Robert Pocknell is CEO of N&M Consultancy and has more than 25 years’ experience advising on IP matters. N&M assists businesses to devise and implement appropriate IP strategies to suit the budget and needs of each business, to create a competitive advantage and to protect shareholder interests. It has advised new market entrants as well as small and medium-sized enterprises and multinational companies, primarily in the consumer electronics industry.
Mr Pocknell is chair of the Fair Standards Alliance (FSA), an association formed to promote fair, balanced and rational practices in the licensing of standard-essential patents on a FRAND basis. N&M was a founding member of the FSA, which has become a leading voice in the increasingly important standard-essential patents licensing debate, as connectivity expands from phones to connected devices in the Internet of Things. Since its formation in 2015, membership has grown to more than 35 members innovating across the entire wireless value chain in multiple industries, including Airties, Apple, BMW Mini, Bullitt Mobile, Bury, Cisco, Continental, Daimler, Deutsche Telekom, Dell, Fairphone, Ford, Freebox, Google, Harman, Honda, HP, Hyundai, Intel, ip.access, Juniper Networks, Laird Tech, Lenovo, Nordic Semi, peiker, Sagemcom, Sequans, Sierra Wireless, Telit, Toyota, u-blox, Valeo, Visteon, Volkswagen and Wiko Mobile.
Mr Pocknell is a qualified solicitor in England and works for the leading law firms Origin and Keystone Law. He has previously worked in-house, having been general counsel at Sendo, the United Kingdom’s first mobile phone manufacturer and developer of the world’s first Microsoft smartphone, and having spent two years as IP counsel at TomTom, the leading satellite navigation company.
