Vice President at Charles River Associates
Robert B Goldman is a vice president at Charles River Associates’ IP practice, where he assists clients in developing and implementing strategies to manage and realise value from their IP portfolios. He specialises in evaluating and valuing intellectual property – particularly large patent portfolios – for a variety of purposes, including mergers and acquisitions, licensing and sale transactions, bankruptcy proceedings and determination of damages.
Mr Goldman also assists clients with developing and executing IP licensing programmes, including identifying licensable opportunities and qualifying licensees, facilitating due diligence and negotiating licences. He has provided clients with IP strategic due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. He has reviewed and evaluated large patent portfolios as part of IP inventory and strategic patent audits in order to help align clients’ IP portfolios with their business strategy.
Mr Goldman is experienced in performing patent analytics research to assist clients in making informed decisions in a variety of contexts, such as M&A due diligence, transaction target identification and prioritisation and risk assessment. He has also conducted intellectual asset management benchmarking and process review studies for clients, and prepared and delivered IP awareness and valuation training for corporate clients. His engagement experience includes a variety of industries, such as standard-related wireless technologies, mobile devices, analogue and digital printing, telecommunications, semiconductors, digital imaging, medical devices and medical treatments, sensors, electronics, electronic displays, automotive and heavy-duty equipment, chemicals, clean coal and cellulosic ethanol.
Mr Goldman is a long-time Licensing Executives Society member, having served as a trustee for education, treasurer, instructor and member of the Valuation and Taxation Committee. He is an adjunct professor at Northwestern University School of Law, teaching a course on IP valuation.
