Head of Licensing at Technicolor
Philippe Lanet serves as head of licensing and deputy to the chief IP officer at Technicolor, a worldwide leader of the media and entertainment industry at the forefront of digital innovation. He is responsible for the definition and implementation of the licensing strategy to maximise the value of the R&D investment of the group. Mr Lanet manages a team of negotiators, leads key negotiations and is also responsible for the development of new licensing programmes. He has more than 20 years’ strong expertise in the IP industry – from patent filing and prosecution to the monetisation of IP rights. Mr Lanet is a certified European Knowledge and Technology Transfer Society expert.
Mr Lanet joined Technicolor in 2006 to lead the licensing-out team and develop new licensing programmes. He managed and executed many transactions in the field of digital television, set-top boxes, mobile phones and tablets. He has been instrumental in the negotiation of a strategic joint-licensing programme and has been involved in many M&A transactions.
Before joining Technicolor, Mr Lanet was senior licensing manager at Alcatel, where he executed many patent licensing deals in the field of GSM/UMTS and xDSL technologies with companies in Asia, Europe and the United States.
From 1994 to 2000 Mr Lanet was patent manager at Essilor International, the worldwide leader in ophthalmic lenses. He was in charge of the protection of inventions in the field of optical design and new processes and the follow-up of the competitors.
He holds a master’s in law from the Assas University in Paris and studied patent law at the University of Strasbourg. He also holds an engineering degree from Institut d’Optique Graduate School and participated in educational programmes for management at the École Supérieure des Sciences Économiques et Commerciales and for the management of innovation at Harvard University.
