Senior Member of Technical Staff
at Longitude Licensing
Paul Ahern serves as senior member of technical staff at Longitude Licensing Ltd, an Irish patent monetisation company and part of the IPValue Management Group. Founded in July 2013, Longitude manages portfolios totalling almost 4,000 patent grants and applications from several blue-chip technology companies and holds several notable portfolios in the areas of semiconductor processing, flash memory and display technology.
Mr Ahern has a sophisticated understanding of the IP marketplace, key players and technology trends, coupled with deep domain expertise in the semiconductor area. He has hands-on responsibility for patent analysis, reverse engineering, incoming portfolio evaluation and programme management, and brings a track record of successful experience in patent licensing engagements.
Prior to joining Longitude, Mr Ahern worked at Intellectual Ventures (IV) out of its Dublin office, where he helped to refine and execute the licensing plan for IV’s semiconductor portfolio in its third invention investment fund. Working closely with IV’s global licensing team, he accelerated the technical function to successfully develop and launch new licensing programmes and grow revenues, while also building strategic patent pools and managing the portfolio lifecycle for optimum carrying cost.
Before IV, Mr Ahern held senior technical roles within Alcatel-Lucent (now Nokia) Bell Labs and began his professional career as a materials characterisation manager at Intel.
Mr Ahern holds a BSc in material science from the University of Limerick and an MEng in electronic systems from Dublin City University, where he serves as adjunct lecturer in the field of semiconductor fabrication and technology.
Semiconductor authority Paul Ahern is deeply skilled in both the technical and business aspects of patent licensing. Ambitious, dynamic and intellectually gifted, he has many stellar licensing accomplishments on his résumé.
