Chief Executive Officer
at Rapid Alpha
Matthew Wahlrab is a pioneer and leader in innovation management as a service and a globally recognised IP adviser. As founder and CEO of Rapid Alpha, a multinational corporation, Mr Wahlrab developed a proprietary process that brings rigour to how companies evaluate investments in emerging technologies. The result – an industry-defining competitive advantage report – identifies strategic buy, build, partner and invest opportunities.
The process – proven by its adoption by some of the largest multinationals – breaks down internal silos and brings together the right blend of internal technical expertise and outside validation of emerging technology. This multidisciplined approach – captured in Rapid Alpha’s proprietary software – gives innovators the confidence and focus that they need to transition from ideas to products. The end result is sustained competitive advantage.
Through his work at Rapid Alpha, Mr Wahlrab brokers tech transfer and partnership agreements between leading universities, corporate think tanks, scale-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises. These transactions give innovators access to game-changing technology while Mr Wahlrab’s strategies create opportunities for stakeholders to break from their silos and deliver new technology to the market with speed and purpose.
As CEO of Innovative Foundations (IF), Mr Wahlrab offers services that go beyond pure IP strategy. Through IP planning, filing, prosecuting, and due diligence services, IF consistently delivers valuable IP portfolios that secure investment capital, protect company interests in partnership deals, drive business exits, generate licensing revenues, and close patent divestitures
Mr Wahlrab has been recognised by IAM 300 four times and has won the Intellectual Ventures President’s Award for his pioneering work in licensing. As an entrepreneur he has exited one company. He also brings his experience as an author to Kieretsu Capital’s Exit Workbook (a guide for exit planning for start-ups) and the International Chamber of Commerce guidelines in intellectual property. Mr Wahlrab’s expertise with new business models has helped him place more than $125 million in investment capital into succesful business ventures. He has ghost drafted and prosecuted hundreds of utility applications, sold more than 2,000 patent assets, negotiated more than $60 million in new licensing revenue, and managed IP portfolios as large as 5,600 assets. He is an adviser to venture capital firms and several start-ups, as well as a noted author and keynote speaker.
Using innovative systems, Matthew Wahlrab builds up strong patent portfolios and then, crucially, presses home the business advantage derived from them. He deploys a creative mind and penetrating commercial vision to net enormous capital investment and licensing success.
