Jyrki Nikula is director, IP Europe at Harman. He is involved in standard essential patent licensing and indemnification matters. He also participates in government relations work related to intellectual property at the EU level, including participation in industry associations work. Mr Nikula also works on IP-related antitrust matters.
Harman designs and engineers connected products and solutions for automakers, consumers and enterprises worldwide, including connected car systems, audio and visual products, enterprise automation solutions, as well as services supporting the Internet of Things. Harman brands include AKG, Harman/Kardon, JBL, Lexicon, Mark Levinson and Revel.
Before joining Harman, Mr Nikula worked in private practice as an IP litigator and was head of the IP legal and trademark department at a major IP firm in Finland. His earlier in-house positions include European IP counsel for eBay in Switzerland and senior legal counsel, IP for Nokia in Finland. During his career, Mr Nikula has acted as lead counsel in a wide variety of patent and trademark litigation cases, as well as licensing in various technical fields, including in the chemical, mechanical, mobile, music and automotive industries. He was also former deputy judge at the Marketing Court of Finland.
Mr Nikula is qualified as attorney at law and holds a legal degree from the University of Helsinki. He is currently based in Karlsbad, Germany.
