Heath Hoglund is vice president of intellectual property and standards at Dolby Laboratories Inc in San Francisco, California, where he has global responsibility for patents, trademarks and copyright. In this role, he has responsibility for the strategic development of Dolby’s patent portfolio for a wide range of technologies and product offerings. He has built fundamental portfolios through organic research and development and led significant acquisitions of synergistic patent assets. He also has responsibility for Dolby’s patent licensing programmes, including driving revenue growth. He also manages research and engineering activities for collaborative standards.

Before joining Dolby, Mr Hoglund founded Hoglund & Pamias, a full-service IP law firm in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he represented a broad range of clients in the federal courts and at the USPTO. He also served as an adjunct professor of patent law at the University of Puerto Rico School of Law.

Mr Hoglund currently serves on the Board of the Intellectual Property Owners Association and he previously served as chair of the American Bar Association IP Section’s Patent Division. He is also past president of the San Francisco IP Law Association.

He has a JD (cum laude), an MS and a BS (cum laude) from the University of Minnesota.
