Graham Bell is the founder and managing director of Cubicibuc Limited, an independent IP consulting firm dedicated to providing pragmatic commercial and technical advice. Cubicibuc focuses on providing bespoke solutions to meet client’s business needs, including strategic IP consulting, portfolio management and transaction and valuation support – particularly for technology intensive companies looking to protect investments in research and development and new product development, or monetise existing intellectual assets.
Mr Bell is a technologist with more than 15 years’ experience in IP advisory and over 25 years’ extensive experience advising clients in the development and exploitation of technology. As a product engineer, he has developed products in the cellular field, from GSM to 3G and 4G systems; location-based systems including GNSS; and proprietary systems for automotive, security and fast-moving consumer goods sectors.
Mr Bell specialises in issues relating to standards-based IP rights, and has published widely on issues relating to SEPs and FRAND licensing. He has been directly involved in a number of international litigations and arbitrations, as well as complaints to the EU and US competition authorities.
Mr Bell is an industrial fellow with the Innovation and IP Management group within the Institute for Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge. He is involved in the development of IP strategy toolsets to enable businesses to build effective IP strategies.
As part of his IP strategy work, Mr Bell is involved in a number of ongoing projects concerning the interplay of intellectual property and open innovation, engaging with SMEs and large multinationals. Intellectual property is a key driver for collaborative innovation and Mr Bell’s work focuses on developing tools to allow SMEs to more effectively articulate the intellectual property that they own – particularly around soft intellectual property such as know-how and trade secrets, as well as enhancing SME’s ability to negotiate contracts for collaborative ventures.
Mr Bell holds a master’s degree in electronic and electrical engineering, an MBA and is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
