Corporate Director, IP Strategist
Clara Pombo is corporate director, IP strategist at ClarkeModet, the largest IP group in the world’s Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. Ms Pombo has more than 18 years’ experience in IP, designing strategies to monetise and strengthen the value of parent portfolios through portfolio management, licensing and patent assertion strategies.
Her knowledge and uncanny ability to translate complex situations into business value have placed IP value at the core of C-suite and top executives’ strategy. She is passionate about how the intersection of business, law and technology can offer a competitive advantage for organisations.
She regularly advises clients, from technology start-ups to big corporations, on strategic decisions to maximise IP value.
Prior to her current role, Ms Pombo worked as an executive at a number of multinationals in the telecoms and technology sectors, where she led a team of IP professionals and IP information analysts to drive revenue and increase profits by encouraging open innovation and collaboration with external partners.
Ms Pombo holds a JD from Complutense University in Spain and an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA. She is a co-founder and member of the board of MIT Enterprise Forum Spain and serves on the advisory board of Rhapsody Ventures, a Cambridge-based Venture Capital.
She is regularly invited to speak at international and domestic IP conferences, such as the Licensing Executives Society, the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property and the International Trademark Association.
Clara Pombo has a granular understanding of the IP systems in Latin America, Spain and Portugal. She goes above and beyond providing purely legal advice but delves deep into IP strategy to support her clients’ business development in a most meaningful way.
