Tessa Malamud-Cohen is a Dutch native living in Israel. Since 2010 she has been employed by the Swiss company Ferring Pharmaceuticals at its wholly owned subsidiary Bio-Technology General (Israel) Ltd. Ms Malamud-Cohen has been active in the IP field for 30 years, most of which as in-house counsel in the pharmaceutical industry (and three years in private practice).
Ms Malamud-Cohen has a BSc and a MSc in biology and microbiology, respectively, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is both a licensed European and Israeli patent attorney. She is also about to finalise her MBA studies at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
She has worked in both the innovative and generic pharmaceutical industry in Israel and the Netherlands, including with Bio-Technology General (1992 to 1999), Teva Pharmaceuticals (1999 to 2001), NV Organon (2002 to 2006) and Ferring Pharmaceuticals (2010 until present). From 2006 to 2009 she was employed by the IP firm Reinhold Cohn & Partners (as partner from 2008).
Ms Malamud-Cohen has extensive experience in several jurisdictions, including managing multi-jurisdictional litigations, particularly in Europe and the United States where she leads multinational legal teams. She also has extensive experience in patentability assessments, drafting patent applications, worldwide patent prosecution, conducting oppositions, infringement assessments, due-diligence investigations relating to patent disputes and potential in-licensing projects, freedom-to-operate assessments, validity assessments, patent portfolio management, drug product lifecycle management and licensing.
Ms Malamud-Cohen was named a Corporate IP Star by MIP for six consecutive years (2015 to 2020) and as one of the World’s Leading Strategists by IAM 300 for four consecutive years (2018 to 2021).
She is a member of the European Patent Institute, the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Licensing Executives Society (of which she is a former committee member), the Association of Israel Patent Attorneys and the International Intellectual Property Law Association.
