Naho Fujimoto's Profile

Naho Fujimoto has been a partner at Maiwald since 2019 and is an esteemed German and European patent attorney representing companies from the pharmaceutical and chemical industry in worldwide patent prosecution proceedings.

After having studied chemistry and obtaining her doctorate degree in the field of organic chemistry in Hamburg, Ms Fujimoto began her career in the IP field in France, so she has always been in an international set-up. These assets allow her to understand her international clients’ issues and to handle cross-border proceedings successfully in the best possible manner.

With her Japanese background and language skills, she is particularly pleased to be able to offer direct and high-quality support to clients from the Japanese and Asian region and is asked to provide advice on strategical matters (eg, related to third parties) on a regular basis. In addition to her work on European patent grant proceedings, she handles complex global patent families and portfolios from application to grant and post-grant proceedings. She accompanies the development and commercialisation of pharmaceutical products from scratch, not only by building up a patent portfolio covering all aspects of the product but also by providing early due diligence and advice on freedom-to-operate assessments, competitor monitoring and advice on potential licensing negotiations. Ms Fujimoto is also regularly entrusted with conducting state-of-the-art searches and evaluations, opinion work such as freedom to operate, validity and infringement analyses, as well as opposition proceedings. She also provides strategic advice on the respective stage of proceedings. Ms Fujimoto was listed as a recommended lawyer by The Legal 500in 2021 and 2022.
