Dr Winkelmann combines outstanding legal and technical expertise with the entrepreneurial perspective of a former strategic management consultant. With this unique combination of experience, she brings a strategic and economic approach to all questions relating to patent law, which gives her clients a decisive advantage in global competition. She is particularly adept at providing comprehensive IP consultancy for innovative medium-sized enterprises and ‘hidden champions’, as well as for larger family-owned companies and private equity investors.

Beyond creation of strong international patent portfolios and attacking, defending and enforcing patents, Dr Winkelmann has profound expertise in freedom-to-operate and patent portfolio analyses, as well as transaction consulting and IP due diligence. Further, Dr Winkelmann advises on active and passive protection strategies for connected/smart solutions in the context of digitisation and the Internet of Things, particularly relating to special challenges regarding cross-border issues in process inventions and indirect patent infringement in distributed systems implemented by multiple parties.

Dr Winkelmann is a member of the research advisory board of the Research Institute for Industrial Management at RWTH Aachen University. In this capacity, she evaluates research projects and technology transfer applications.

Her background includes engineering studies at international technical universities and a PhD (Dr Ing) in mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University, as well as several years of professional experience as a management consultant at international strategy consultancy Boston Consulting Group.
