Jenni Lukander is president of Nokia Technologies and a member of Nokia Group Leadership Team. Nokia Technologies is the licensing arm of Nokia, monetising Nokia patents, proprietary technologies and the Nokia brand. These businesses collectively generated €1.4 billion in revenue in 2020. Ms Lukander is also responsible for managing Nokia’s world-leading patent portfolio of more than 20,000 patent families and Nokia’s IP rights strategy.
Ms Lukander joined Nokia in 2007. During her career at Nokia she has held various leadership positions in legal and IP roles, with her teams consisting of commercial, technical and legal specialists. She has extensive experience in leading patent business activities and protecting intellectual property in the high-tech industry. She has managed projects ranging from negotiating game-changing deals to confidential arbitrations and high-profile litigation activities against some of the world’s most recognisable companies.
In addition to managing the company’s IP matters, Ms Lukander has years of experience of leading legal teams focusing on litigation, competition law, data privacy, trade compliance and other regulatory matters. She has vast experience dealing with regulators, including the US Department of Justice, the US Federal Trade Commission, the European Commission and the Ministry of Commerce, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the State Administration for Market Regulation in China. During Nokia’s transformation from a mobile-phone company to a world-leading networks provider from 2013 to 2016, Ms Lukander was part of the core legal team enabling the historic turnaround, which consisted of multiple major transactions including the sale of Nokia’s smartphone business to Microsoft and the acquisitions of NSN and Alcatel Lucent.
Before joining Nokia, Ms Lukander began her career at a leading Northern European law firm based in Helsinki, focusing on competition law. Ms Lukander speaks regularly at international conferences on topics relating to IP rights. She holds an LLM from Helsinki University (1999) and speaks Finnish, English, Swedish and German. She is also a mother of three teenage boys.
