According to the 2022 edition of the Global Innovation Index, when it comes to innovative capacity, Peru is 65 of 132 countries. However, its economy falls short of being able to fund and protect its domestic inventions. Innovation in Peru needs to be driven by greater investment and nurturing of pioneers in the country’s industries. Many creators are aware of this, and work closely with universities and IP firms to protect and promote their inventions. The government must adopt a more proactive approach if Peru wishes to see a greater number of granted domestic patents. Unfortunately, recent political instability following the appointment of the new president Dina Boluarte – and her subsequent appointment of four new ministers – has created an atmosphere of uncertainty in the country.
