Denmark’s IP scene continues to thrive, and with the country’s robust infrastructure, vibrant start-up community and abundant government funding opportunities, this comes as no surprise. In late 2021 the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs introduced a new IP action plan to further drive innovation in the country, with 16 concrete initiatives. Some key ones include: a patent voucher system, where an SME can apply for up to Dkr75,000 yearly to cover the cost of patent work and IP consultancy fees; a fast-track patent system to benefit companies in industries with fast-paced technological developments; and a new mentoring programme that allows SMEs to engage in knowledge-sharing activity with larger companies with greater intellectual property rights experience. It is very clear that intellectual property is very firmly on the country’s agenda and its willingness to support inventors and entrepreneurs further cements its position as a favourable jurisdiction for innovators.
