Wolfgang Lippich has been a German patent attorney as well as a European patent, trademark and design attorney since 1994.
He studied physics (with honours) in Munich and Geneva and attained a doctorate in experimental particle physics at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. Inspired by his family roots, he then entered the patent world.
As a patent attorney, Dr Lippich’s special interests lie in prosecuting, defending, enforcing and challenging patents in the fields of computer science, telecommunications, electrical engineering (eg, energy technology, high-voltage technology, electronics and control) and mechanical engineering (eg, electric and hybrid drives, wind turbines and automotive). He is experienced in opposition proceedings before the German and European Patent Offices; opposition appeal proceedings before the Federal Patent Court and the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office; and nullity proceedings before the Federal Patent Court and the Federal Supreme Court of Justice, as well as related litigation.
Dr Lippich undertakes professional training in the computer science field. He has acquired advanced training certificates from the University of Applied Science of Trier in the fields of IT networks, databases, IT security, embedded systems, data structures and algorithms, object-oriented programming, parallel and distributed processing, graphical user interfaces, image processing, software engineering and theoretical computer science.
Dr Lippich is the author of the textbook German and European Patent Law and is a visiting lecturer at Hagen Law School.
Dr Lippich has been recommended in the Juve Handbook 2011, 2016 and 2017, Managing Intellectual Property’s IP Stars Handbook 2013 and 2014 and the IAM Patent 1000 2014 to 2017.
