René Wenger

Patent Attorney at Hepp Wenger Ryffel AG

René Wenger is a Swiss and European patent attorney. He was a partner with Hepp Wenger Ryffel for many years and is still of counsel to the firm. He has a background in mechanical engineering and started his career in a large Swiss industrial enterprise. Mr Wenger completed his professional training at business school and attended lectures on civil law. His technical fields of experience are precision mechanics, apparatus construction, packaging technology and textile machinery. He also negotiates and drafts technical licence agreements.

In the course of his professional life as a patent attorney he had the opportunity to take part in the expansion of the European Patent Convention almost from the beginning. In addition to representing clients before the Swiss Institute for Intellectual Property, Mr Wenger represents clients before the European Patent Office in prosecution, opposition and appeal proceedings. He has been involved in many patent litigation cases, both in Switzerland and abroad.

He has many years’ experience as a court expert in patent validity and infringement cases before the Swiss courts and he assists clients in cases before the newly established Federal Patent Court, which has been responsible for validity and infringement cases in Switzerland since 2012. Mr Wenger is a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Licensing Executives Society, the Verband der freiberuflichen Europäischen und Schweizer Patentanwälte, the Institut für den gewerblichen Rechtsschutz and the International Trademark Association. He is fluent in German and English.
