Peter Widmer has been a partner of FMP Fuhrer Marbach & Partners since 1988. His practice is focused on all relevant aspects of intellectual property, including litigation in all Swiss courts, and he serves his clients in German and English.
One of his two main focuses is patent litigation, with a special talent for complex and intricate cases in all technical areas. The second focus is on the strategic protection of signs (trademarks, company names and trade and domain names), from evaluation and clearance of new signs to their protection and enforcement, including aspects of unfair competition, antitrust law and copyright law.
Further, Mr Widmer’s practice involves all aspects of contracts, with a clear focus on IP-related matters, including licences, coexistence and delimitation agreements and agreements regarding the creation and assignment of IP rights.
Mr Widmer is the author of several IP publications, including the Switzerland section of International Trademark and Signs Protection (Lange, CH Beck, Munich, 2010), and has contributed to a commentary on the Swiss Federal Patent Court. He is a speaker at numerous national and international symposia on IP-related matters and is a past chair of the Trademark Special Committee of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). Mr Widmer is a board member of the Swiss group of the AIPPI and INGRES, the Swiss national IP association. He is also a member of the Bern and Swiss Bar Associations.
