Peter Klusmann


Peter Klusmann is partner and co-chair of HOFFMANN EITLE’s chemistry group.

Dr Klusmann’s work focuses on patents in the chemical and pharma­ceu­tical fields, principally opposi­tion and appeal proceedings before the European and German patent offices and nullity proceedings of the Federal Patent Court. His daily work includes opinion work, and patent prose­cu­tion and litiga­tion (both cross-border and national), as well as employed inventor’s law. Dr Klusmann has partic­ular expertise in the fields of fine chemi­cals, pharma­ceu­ti­cals, photo­chem­istry, polymers and organometallic chemistry. He has a broad experience in litigation in various technical fields, including printing plates, coffee pads, coatings, polymer processing and pharma­ceu­ti­cals (eg, omeprazole, tamsulosin, sildenafil, latanoprost, botulinum toxin, alendronate, quetiapin and tiotropium).

Dr Klusmann has published various publi­ca­tions on patent law and employed inven­tor’s law. He acts as a European correspondent for Patents & Licensing.

Dr Klusmann studied chemistry at Rheinisch Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (1986 to 1990). He completed his diploma and doctoral theses at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research, Mülheim an der Ruhr (1991 to 1993), gathering practical experi­ence with the synthesis and charac­ter­i­sa­tion of organic compounds, particularly organometallic chemistry. He received scholar­ships from the Max Planck Society, the Studi­enge­sellschaft Kohle mbH and the Chemical Industry Foundation. Dr Klusmann has been with HOFFMANN EITLE since 1994, qualifying as a German and European patent attorney in 1998.

Dr Klusmann is bilingual in German and English.
