Patent Attorney at Stolmár & Partner
Paul-Alexander Wacker is a German and European patent attorney with 40 years of experience. He holds a master’s in electrical engineering and economics and is a visiting professor at the Technical University in Munich. In parallel to his education as a patent attorney, he studied law at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
Mr Wacker has prosecuted thousands of patents, designs and trademarks for major global companies with a technical focus on telecommunications, computer-related inventions, semiconductors, automation technology, the automotive industry, medical devices, energy, building and agricultural technology. His reputation has been established with the creation of global brands and numerous cases in litigation, licensing, mediation, IP valuation and IP strategy.
Mr Wacker founded KUHNEN & WACKER in 1976. Since 1990 he has lectured in Chicago, Tokyo, Nagoya, Shanghai, Passau, Stuttgart, Munich and Incheon, and at various industry events, including those organised by the Licensing Executives Society, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the International Trademark Association, the Intellectual Property Owners Association and the Japan Intellectual Property Association.
Mr Wacker has published numerous articles and books on IP management, valuation, creation and strategy.
He is a long-standing chair and co-chair of the Committees for Innovation of the Advisory Council to the Bavarian government, the Bavarian Industry Association and the Federal Association of Family Enterprises. He serves as an official expert on the German government’s Committee on Legal Affairs for the Patent Revision Act and on the Committee on Innovation of Medical Devices.
In 2015 Mr Wacker left his IP firm to establish a consulting firm, WACKER Innovation Strategy, opening an office in Salzburg in cooperation with law firm Zumtobel & Kronberger.
In 2018 Mr Wacker became of counsel to IP firm Stolmár & Partner in Munich, with additional offices in Hamburg and Geneva. Stolmár & Partner is a medium-sized IP firm which has been listed in the JUVE handbook as a Recommended IP Law Firm for Chemistry and IT/Software. Stolmár & Partner is fully equipped to take on large-scale IP portfolios in most areas of trademarks, designs and technology.
