Nader A Mousavi is a partner and co-head of the IP and technology group at Sullivan & Cromwell.
Mr Mousavi is a leading expert in IP transactions and strategy, and has extensive experience in high-stakes patent, trademark, content, data and technology licensing, as well as in IP transactions and strategy in the context of M&As, joint ventures, collaborations, spin-outs, outsourcing, restructuring, financings, monetisation, licensing and settlements. Mr Mousavi was a lecturer in law at Stanford Law School (2015-2018) where he taught patent and technology licensing. He also serves as national reunion chair and a member of the board of visitors for Stanford Law School.
Mr Mousavi has been the lead outside counsel in connection with patent licensing transactions involving the payment of more than $5 billion in royalties, and in connection with mergers and acquisitions with an aggregate value of $500 billion. His clients have included Alcatel-Lucent, Alibaba, Amgen, Anheuser-Busch InBev, AT&T, Bayer, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, CLS Bank, DirecTV, Dolby, Eastman Kodak, ING, Intel, Kraft Foods, Major League Baseball, Pharmasset, Silver Lake Partners, Skype, Stemcentrx, TeliaSonera, VeriFone, Verily and Waymo.
Mr Mousavi has been recognised as a leading lawyer in publications such as Chambers USA, Daily Journal, IAM, the Legal 500 United States and Northern California Super Lawyers. He is a frequent speaker on IP and technology matters, including at Stanford Law School, the Licensing Executives Society, the Practicing Law Institute and IPBC Global.
Before joining Sullivan & Cromwell, Mr Mousavi was a partner at another leading law firm and general counsel of a telecommunications software company. He received his bachelor’s from the University of California, Los Angeles and his law degree from Stanford Law School.
