Head of Patent Department of Co-effort Law Firm at Co-effort Law Firm LLP
Mingjie Zheng has more than 14 years of experience working in the patent field and is the head of the patent department of Shanghai Co-effort Law Firm. She holds a bachelor’s degree in electronic and information engineering, and is a dual-qualified patent agent and attorney at law.
Prior to joining Co-effort, Ms Zheng served as a patent examiner at the Patent Re-examination Board of SIPO (now the Re-examination and Invalidation Department of the Patent Office at the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) from 2006 to 2013. During that time, she handled hundreds of cases independently, one of which was selected as a “Top Ten Patent Invalidation Cases of China” by the Patent Re-examination Board in 2013. Her experience at the CNIPA gives her an edge in patent prosecution and searches, especially in the electronic and information engineering areas. While at the CNIPA, she also took part in the Questions Studies Group and conducted numerous research reports.
Since moving to private practice, Ms Zheng has focused on all aspects of intellectual property, including patent litigation, licensing, technology transfers and client counselling. She has represented clients in many influential and high-profile IP litigation cases, and has also provided year-round legal consultancy services to well-known multinational companies. The cases she represented were selected in the 2018 collection of Shanghai classic cases of foreign-related legal services.
Ms Zheng is a member of Competition and Antitrust Research Committee of the Shanghai Bar Association and the chief supervisor of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Academy. In 2018 she was selected as a “Top-Ten Patent Attorneys” by the China Intellectual Property Forum. In addition, Ms Zheng is an adjunct professor at the Law School of Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, as well as a mediator at the Shanghai Economic and Trade Commercial Mediation Centre.
