Managing Director at Stout
Michele Riley is a managing director in the dispute consulting group at Stout. She is responsible for providing a variety of consulting services, with a focus on IP damages and valuation. Ms Riley has been selected every year for the IAM Patent 1000 since 2015, and her deep experience in all phases of the litigation process makes her a tremendous asset to any trial team.
Ms Riley has testified in venues across the United States regarding damages in patent, trademark and copyright infringement, as well as trade secret misappropriation cases. She has performed valuations of intellectual property for arms-length licensing and litigation matters, and assisted clients with the financial aspects of negotiations for the purchase, sale and licensing of intellectual property. In addition, she has audited royalty streams on technology licences for clients in a number of industries and testified regarding unpaid royalties in contract disputes.
Ms Riley has also written and lectured extensively on methodologies for determining damages in IP infringement matters, as well as valuation techniques for intangible assets. She is proud to serve as an instructor for the Certified Licensing Professional test review class on behalf of the Licensing Executives Society. She is frequently invited to speak about the financial aspects of intellectual property at universities, meetings of professional groups and the USPTO.
Ms Riley’s other litigation services experience includes damage valuations and testimony in the areas of breach of contract and unfair competition. Her management and administration of bankruptcy and troubled company engagements have entailed developing financial models, preparing cash-flow projections under varying scenarios and analysing business segments and operations. She also has extensive experience in not-for-profit accounting and finance, having served in a variety of volunteer board and community group leadership positions.
