Partner at Pinsent Masons
With more than 20 years’ experience as trial counsel, Michael Schneider helps clients to protect and enforce their patents and related IP rights before the German infringement and validity courts.
Dr Schneider specialises in patent litigation and related advice work in the high-tech sector, often in a multi-jurisdictional setting. He has repeatedly been listed as a recommended individual for patent litigation in the Juve German Commercial Law Firms Handbook and as a key practitioner in The Legal 500.
In addition to his role as lead counsel on the infringement and validity side, Dr Schneider has in-depth knowledge and experience in SEP and FRAND matters, as well as in national German inspection and cross-border procedures to obtain and secure evidence, including 28 USC § 1782 discovery in aid of foreign litigation. His broad experience ranges from mobile telecoms and semiconductor integrated circuit technology to medical devices, mechanical subject matters and life sciences. His understanding of clients’ business interests, as well as his service commitment and ability to think outside the box make all the difference when developing client strategies.
Before entering private practice, Dr Schneider obtained a PhD on a patent litigation subject from the Max-Planck-Institute for Intellectual Property Law in Munich. He also worked for the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and for the EPO, always focusing on patent enforcement projects. Dr Schneider’s work experience has provided him with a valuable understanding of the different approaches to formulating and delivering a coordinated cross-jurisdictional litigation strategy.
Dr Schneider is fluent in German, English and French.
