Michael Rüberg


Michael Rüberg is a partner at BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT, one of Germany’s largest IP firms, working out of the firm’s Munich and Dusseldorf offices.

His practice is focused on patent litigation and he represents clients in all German infringement courts, at the Federal Patent Court and – in invalidity cases – at the European Patent Office. Mr Rüberg is frequently involved in the coordination and resolution of cross-border IP disputes. Another focus of his work is on strategic counselling, from acquiring to enforcing IP portfolios. In addition, he provides legal advice on licensing issues, technology transfer and employee inventions.

Mr Rüberg studied law at the Universities of Bochum and Munster. After graduating with distinction, he earned his doctorate in law at the Institute of Media Law, University of Cologne. He holds an LLM in intellectual property from King’s College London and has frequently visited both the United Kingdom and the United States as part of his legal training.

Before joining BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT, Mr Rüberg was active as in-house counsel and was a group leader in the IP department of BMW AG. He has also worked as a patent litigator for a leading international firm. Mr Rüberg is a global fellow of the US Federal Circuit Bar Association and a member of its Leadership Committee. He is a visiting professor at Xiangtan University, China and frequently publishes on various IP topics. The Legal 500 places particular emphasis on his work in the field of patent litigation and mentions his “utmost professionalism” and “business-minded approach”.

Mr Rüberg is a member of various professional associations, including the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Association of Intellectual Property Experts, the Licensing Executives Society and the International Association of Intellectual Property.
