Mark A Peterson is the founder and CEO of Robinwood Consulting LLC, an independent boutique consulting firm specialising in the causation and determination of economic damages in commercial disputes as well as the valuation and licensing of intellectual property.
For more than 30 years, Mr Peterson has performed valuations of IP assets in a variety of contexts and determined the calculation of economic damages in litigation settings. He has testified on bankruptcy issues, commodities fraud issues, legal and accounting malpractice issues, lost profits damages, breach of contract damages, irreparable harm, unjust enrichment damages and reasonable royalty damages, among others.
Mr Peterson has assisted clients in the licensing of technology, both in settlement of litigation and in avoidance of litigation. This assistance has taken the form of determining the economic impact of potential licence terms to provide for appropriate sharing of risk between the parties to the agreement.
In 2009 and 2010 Mr Peterson was a member of the initial class of the IAM Strategy 250, a list of 250 of the world’s leading IP strategists. He was again included in the IAM Strategy 300 in 2013 and 2014. Mr Peterson has presented on technology and damages issues to numerous organisations, including the Licensing Executives Society (LES), the Association of University Technology Managers and the Practising Law Institute.
Mr Peterson has been very active in the Licensing Executives Society. He served as a trustee (1995-2001) and as a member of the executive committee (1998-2001). He has taught many courses to licensing professionals and developed the valuation and negotiation sections of LES’s “Fundamentals of Intellectual Asset Management” and “Intermediate Intellectual Asset Management” seminars.
Mr Peterson has a BBA in accounting and economics from Ohio University. He served as a member of the advisory board of the Ohio University Edison Biotechnology Institute. He is a Certified Licensing Professional, a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) and a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Illinois CPA Society.
