Klara Goldbach

Klara Goldbach obtained her doctorate in chemistry from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. After completing her post-doctorate at Colorado State University, she joined Grünecker in 1983 and now co-heads the firm’s chemistry group.

Ms Goldbach practises in all areas of chemistry, including pharmaceuticals. She has particular experience in the area of industrial chemistry (eg, materials for films and coatings, solvents, toners, inks, carbon blacks, chiral separation, photocatalysts and composites) and pharmaceutical chemistry (eg, drug delivery formulations, drug products and candidates in clinical trials).

Ms Goldbach advises on patent strategy and represents clients at the German and European Patent Office (EPO) in prosecution matters. She has extensive experience in opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO and also handles invalidation proceedings before the German Federal Patent Court and the Supreme Court. She regularly provides advice on infringement and validity issues, as well as conducting freedom to operate analyses. She is experienced in prosecuting applications worldwide – particularly in the United States, Japan, China and South Korea.

Ms Goldbach has given lectures and presentations at various seminars and is co-author of Protecting and Enforcing Life Science Inventions in Europe (CH Beck, 2015).
