Johann Gest practises in the IP field, with a focus on patents. Working with clients ranging from start-ups to multinationals, he helps to protect their innovations through patents and industrial designs. Mr Gest has extensive expertise accompanying rapidly growing technological companies through the creation of the company to venture rounds in order to generate value for the company.
In addition to drafting and prosecuting patent applications, Mr Gest prepares opinions on patentability, validity, freedom to operate and infringement.
With an academic background in mathematics, engineering physics and electrical engineering, his expertise covers a wide scientific range, including electronics, optics and opto-electronics, telecommunications, software, green technology and business methods.
During his studies, Mr Gest participated in the development of new all-fibre components, as well as optical fibre lasers and amplifiers. His doctoral thesis primarily focused on the study of transients in Raman amplifiers. While completing his doctoral studies, Mr Gest was also involved in designing a photonic blood glucose metre that did not require disposable strips, and which was the subject matter of a patent application.
