Johan Nyander

Johan Nyander has nearly 30 years’ experience in IP law and joined Zacco in 2019 as a partner and patent director for Denmark and Sweden South.

Prior to joining Zacco, Mr Nyander was group director patents at the Volvo Group from 2017 to 2019 and head of IP rights at Borealis from 2015 to 2017. He had previously worked at AkzoNobel for 22 years as a patent attorney and in IP managerial positions, having started as a patent attorney at Albihns in 1991.

As a patent attorney, Mr Nyander has gained extensive experience from invention harvesting, drafting and prosecution of patent applications, oppositions and appeals, rendering freedom-to-operate and patent infringement opinions, managing patent conflicts and litigations – mainly in Europe and the United States – and advising clients on IP strategies, agreements, IP aspects of M&A processes and trade secret matters.

Mr Nyander also has extensive experience in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering (eg, silica, polymers, coatings, dispersing agents, oil and gas, construction material, biomaterials, papermaking and mechanical devices). He is himself a co-owner of several patents in the fields of polymerisation initiators, papermaking additives and silica particulate materials.

He graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm in 1986 with an MSc in chemical engineering.
