Javier Huarte holds a law degree from Barcelona University and a master’s in intellectual property from Alicante University (Magister Lvcentinvs).
His practice is focused exclusively on patent advice and litigation, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector. He leads the firm’s team in this area, having acted in the most high-profile pharma patent litigations in Spain for more than 15 years. Some of his recent court cases involve blockbuster drugs such as tadalafil, rituximab, valsartan/amlodipine, tenofovir/emtricitabine, oxycodone/naloxone and etonogestrel/ethynilestradiol vaginal rings.
Mr Huarte’s extensive knowledge of European patent law enables him to work regularly on pan-European strategies, acting for national and multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Accord, Alter, Apotex, Aurobindo, Celltrion, Chemo, Cinfa, Ferrer, Kern Pharma, Mylan, Normon, Sandoz, Stada and Teva.
Mr Huarte has been a member of Grau & Angulo since its foundation in 2003 and became a partner in 2005. He regularly takes part in conferences and seminars on pharmaceutical patent law and has taught on the intellectual property master’s programme at Alicante University. He has won the International Law Office Client Choice Award three times in the patents category for Spain and is acknowledged by clients and peers alike as a leading expert in his field.
