- Russian Chamber of Patent Attorneys
Senior Partner at A Zalesov & Partners Patent & Law Firm
One of the founders and the senior partner of A Zalesov & Partners Patent & Law Firm, Irina Ozolina previously acted as an IP litigator and was deputy head of litigation at a major IP law firm in Moscow.
Ms Ozolina has represented her clients in numerous court and administrative patent, trademark and copyright disputes on enforcement and validity issues. She has supported major foreign and local clients in forming their IP enforcement strategy in Russia for many years, helping to bring their strategies to life.
Ms Ozolina was a part of Aleksey Zalesov’s team in 2004 in a pharmaceutical patent infringement case where huge moral damages were, for the first time, recovered by a Russian court in favour of their client, an inventor. She was deeply involved in the first telecoms patent infringement case in Russia from 2012 to 2014, where FRAND issues were first discussed before the Russian courts. In 2014, Ms Ozolina received a special award from a client, a major local manufacturer of specialised machinery, for her assistance in ending a 10-year dispute over an employee's inventorship – in this case the presidium of the IP Court first thoroughly established the circumstances to be proven in this type of dispute. Successful defence in patent infringement disputes, where a doctrine of equivalents was construed by a court – an important precedent – also forms a part of her professional experience.
Ms Ozolina graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Law with distinction and from the Russian Intellectual Property Academy afterwards. She is a registered Russian patent, trademark and design attorney and registered attorney at law (Moscow Bar Association).
Ms Ozolina has a number of publications in Russian and foreign IP media and helped to prepare a monograph for the Austrian Chamber for Commerce and Industry regarding IP protection in BRICS countries. She is an active speaker in different national IP events and has vast experience in holding educational seminars on IP matters for Russian science and industry
