Counsel at Gleiss Lutz
Herwig Lux is an attorney in the Stuttgart office of Gleiss Lutz, one of Germany’s leading full-service law firms. He mainly advises on varieties of IP transaction – with a particular understanding of patents – and is also active in contentious patent and other IP-related matters.
In his non-contentious practice, Dr Lux focuses on complex licensing and other technology-related transactions such as R&D and other cooperation agreements, both between commercial entities and academia, or with individuals such as inventors. His experience ranges from representing major pharmaceutical companies in their cross-border licensing of worldwide patent portfolios to advising technology companies on projects relating to the development and marketing of disruptive technologies. A notable recent success involved advising a leading pharmaceutical company on a long-term collaboration with a biopharmaceutical firm with the aim of developing certain oncolytic viruses – one of the most promising new therapy approaches in cancer research.
Dr Lux also has extensive experience in providing IP-related M&A services, including in complex worldwide carve-outs. He represents both domestic and foreign clients, and has particularly broad experience in the pharmaceutical and automotive sectors.
In addition to his transactional and strategic advisory work, Dr Lux is active in all kinds of IP litigation, with a focus on patents. He has advised clients in various technical fields, including general mechanics, navigation, chemistry, automotive and consumer electronics.
Dr Lux holds a law degree and a doctorate (Dr jur) from Heidelberg University. He has published a number of articles and papers – including material on R&D agreements and IP due diligence – and is a frequent speaker on IP topics. He is also co-authoring a legal handbook on litigation in the Unified Patent Court (to be published).
He is recommended for patents by the law directory JUVE German Commercial Law Firms (2017/2018) and is recommended by the Legal 500 Germany 2018 for his “analytical abilities”, “high level of diligence” and “long standing experience”.
