Flávia Merola is a partner in the patent department of Bhering Advogados. She has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and in law from Candido Mendes University. She also has a postgraduate degree in intellectual property from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and a master’s in chemistry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
From 2012 to 2013 Ms Merola was a professor of patent law on the LLM programme at the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets.
Ms Merola’s double qualification as a lawyer and a technical expert greatly contributes to her broad understanding of patents, comprising legal and technical knowledge.
She is a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Brazilian Bar (Rio de Janeiro Chapter) and the Regional Chemistry Council (Third Region).
Ms Merola has a solid technical and academic background and over 25 years of experience in intellectual property.
She was named as a Patent Star by Managing Intellectual Property (2017) and a leading lawyer in patent prosecution by Leaders League (2017).
She is fluent in Portuguese and English.
