Ana Castañeda

Ana Castañeda is a founding partner and head of the trademark and patent department at C&L ATTORNEYS with over 15 years’ experience in intellectual property. She holds a law degree with a technical background as an electronic engineer.

Ms Castañeda has an incredible depth of knowledge and has been honoured as one of the best lawyers in Mexico for several consecutive years in relation to both patents and trademarks, and has in particular received awards and recognition from Managing Intellectual Property IP STARS, WIPR LEADERS and WIPR INFLUENTIAL WOMEN IN IP.

Ms Castañeda has drafted and prosecuted more than 1,000 patent applications in Mexico and abroad, serving clients’ needs in the relation also to industrial designs and utility models. Ms Castañeda also advises and prepares opinions regarding the patentability of inventions, patent validity and trade secret protection to help clients properly assess the pros and cons of certain IP and business decisions.

She delves into the technical issues as few attorneys in Mexico do, while her analytic thinking and top-notch communications skills enable her to work closely with clients to smoothly navigate the complex Mexican patent system.

Aside from her patent work, Ms Castañeda has also been described as “by far the best in Mexico for trademarksand has been recognised for her trademark-specific work in the WTR 1000.

She is the author of several articles on intellectual property and is frequently interviewed by Mexican TV and radio outlets. She is currently collaborating with INTA mentoring and advising other colleagues through table topics and lectures.

Ms Castañeda is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
