Associate Vice President at WiLAN Inc
Shoji Matsumoto has been associate vice president of the strategic alliances group since joining WiLAN in July 2013. Mr Matsumoto has been responsible for identifying, establishing and maintaining strategic licensing partnerships in Japan and Asia. Mr Matsumoto successfully increased WiLAN’s presence in Japan through several partnership deals with Panasonic, ROHM and FUNAI as publicly released by WiLAN.
Before WiLAN, Mr Matsumoto worked for TechInsights as an associate vice president for strategic accounts and led the professional service divisions for Asia. He managed extensive consultation programmes such as IP strategies that contributed to a corporate R&D effort at consumer manufacturing companies in Japan. He was also involved in portfolio management, portfolio evaluation processes and proactive IP defence, as well as IP monetisation campaigns such as patent divestitures and licensing programmes.
Mr Matsumoto is well known to IP industries in Japan through multiple public speaking engagements at the Tokyo Patent Fair, and through articles written in technology industry magazines such as EETIMES Japan and Nikkan Kogyo newspaper on topics concerning IP strategy, portfolio management and IP monetisation.
Mr Matsumoto has more than 20 years’ industry experience in various market segments such as semiconductors, smart grid and smart energy device applications, robotics and artificial intelligence applications and white goods product applications.
