Patrick Santos is managing partner at Han Santos, PLLC’s Seattle office.
Mr Santos specialises in IP strategy, conflict matters and transactions. He is a seconded attorney at a Fortune 500 technology company and several other medium-sized companies, and has previously also been a seconded attorney at several other Fortune 500 companies. He has led matters including technology licences with major suppliers, IP-based technology transfers with universities, taxonomy-based IP portfolio planning, IP acquisition due diligence, standards and patent pool reviews, product reviews, patent valuation, litigation support and non-infringement and invalidity opinion work.
Approximately one-quarter of Mr Santos’s practice involves supporting start-ups and early-stage companies. Mr Santos provides corporate, securities and transactional law support for start-ups, most notably in business-to-business telecommunications and big data and analytics, including business entity formation, private placement, mergers and acquisitions, asset sales, IP portfolio planning and procurement and supplier and service agreements.
Mr Santos is a former patent examiner in the database and cryptography technology fields. As an examiner, Mr Santos performed re-examinations, interferences and special application warning system reviews. Mr Santos provides support for inter partes reviews and ex parte re-examinations.
Mr Santos has deep technical skills, most notably in systems software, including enterprise software, operating systems, big data and analytics, telecommunications and cellular networks and infrastructure, and embedded systems. He is a former Microsoft engineer and has previously worked on the Visual C++, Windows XP (embedded systems) and XBox (original) teams, as well as at Microsoft Research. In addition to his JD, Mr Santos holds advanced degrees in software engineering. Mr Santos has been an adjunct instructor in C, C++ and data structures at the University of Washington and Bellevue College.
