Mr Christiansen holds an MSc in chemical engineering from the Technical University of Denmark and a BCom (organisation) from Copenhagen Business School.
His technical experience lies mainly in pharmaceuticals, organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, wound and healthcare products and medical devices.

He is a member of the Disciplinary Board of Appeals at the EPO and was appointed as a technically qualified judge at the Maritime and Commercial Court and other Danish courts from 2008 to 2014.
Mr Christiansen is former vice president of the Danish chapter of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), as well as a delegate to the executive committee of the AIPPI. In addition to his native Danish, Mr Christiansen speaks English, German, French and Swedish.
