Aera is a European IP consultancy firm, built on Nordic values, but with an international perspective.
The term ‘aera’ is derived from the Latin word that means ‘era’ in English and ‘æra’ in Danish. The firm’s mission is also derived from its name – it wants to create a new ‘aera’ and become one of the market leaders in IP consultancy.
Aera’s clients come in all sizes – from the largest global companies to local entrepreneurs. What its clients all have in common is that they think big and also want to be or become market leaders in their respective technology fields.
Aera’s patent attorneys are credited with having played a significant role in the creation and protection of landmark portfolios in the life sciences, clean tech, mechanics and electronics industries.
Aera considers the legal issues just as clearly as the commercial and technical issues. This is why clients make Aera their first call when they require a range of services (including IP counselling, prosecution, litigation and patent strategy) or simply need to discuss important business decisions.
Aera has the drive of an entrepreneur and is fortified with experience. The joining of four founding partners with 10 to 20 years’ experience from high-end prosecution firms in the region provided the firm with an exceptionally great start. Aera has grown from just four people in January 2018 to a headcount of 17 people by the end of 2019. Opening an office in Stockholm has truly shown the firm’s rapid growth.
The firm strives to offer high-quality services to clients that use IP strategically and link these strategies to their business needs.
Aera continues to recruit high-end European patent attorneys with experience to maintain the firm’s pace to become one of the most wanted IP firms in the region. During 2019 Ylva Skoglösa, former senior partner at Valea AB, joined Aera to head up its entry into the Swedish market, which attracted serious attention from the local community. The recruitment of Henrik Skødt, former head of the oppositions and appeals team at Novartis, further propelled Aera’s reputation.
Through Ms Skoglösa and Mr Skødt, Aera not only achieved a long-term goal of being able to provide a cross-border litigation support team in Denmark and Sweden for life sciences litigation, but also extended its portfolio with esteemed new clients such as Novartis, Nestle Skin Health, Hempel, Straumann Holding and Lantmännen.
Aera diversifies itself by providing basic prosecution with a fast turnover, along with strategic projects such as invention harvesting, fast-track prosecution, UPC collaborations and IP management.
The firm has invested in a unique user interface and cloud-controlled state-of-the-art IT system, which enables efficient work processes to happen anywhere. This system not only delivers cost savings, but also provides the firm with the flexibility to meet clients’ needs.
