Aera is a European IP consultancy firm, built on Nordic values but with an international outlook.
The name Aera is derived from the Latin for ‘era’ (‘æra’ in Danish). The firm’s mission also derives from its name – it wants to create a new ‘aera’ and become one of the market leaders in IP consultancy.
The firm strives to offer high-quality services to clients that use intellectual property strategically and link these strategies to their business needs.
Aera offers a vast array of services, from basic prosecution with a fast turnover, to strategic projects such as invention harvesting, fast-track prosecution, Unified Patent Court collaborations and IP management.
Aera’s clients come in all sizes – from the largest global companies to local entrepreneurs. What its clients all have in common is that they think big, and are or want to become market leaders in their respective technology fields.
Aera considers the legal aspects of any issue just as clearly and carefully as it does the commercial and technical considerations. This is why clients make Aera their first call when they require a range of services (including IP counselling, prosecution, litigation and patent strategy) or simply need to discuss important business decisions.
Aera has the drive of an entrepreneur backed up by experience. The four founding partners had practised for 10 to 20 years in high-end prosecution firms in the region prior to establishing Aera, which set up the firm for success. Aera has grown from four people in January 2018 to 19 people in February 2020. The opening of an office in Stockholm within two years of its creation reflects the firm’s rapid growth.
The firm has invested in a unique user interface and cloud-controlled state-of-the-art IT system that enables efficient work processes in all areas. This system delivers both cost savings and flexibility to better meet clients’ needs.
Aera’s patent attorneys are credited with having played a significant role in the creation and protection of landmark portfolios in the life sciences, clean tech, mechanics and electronics industries.
Aera continues to recruit highly experienced European patent attorneys to help the firm’s become one of the most sought-after IP firms in the region. During 2019 Ylva Skoglösa, former senior partner at Valea AB, joined Aera to head up its entry into the Swedish market, which attracted serious attention from the local community. The recruitment of Henrik Skødt, former head of the oppositions and appeals team at Novartis, further advanced Aera’s reputation.
Through Ms Skoglösa and Mr Skødt, Aera has not only achieved its goal of creating a cross-border litigation support team for life sciences, but also extended its portfolio with esteemed new clients such as Novartis, Nestle Skin Health, Hempel, Straumann Holding and Lantmännen.
