Tamara specialises in Patent Law, Technology Market Analysis, Technology Transfer and IP Commercialisation. She works predominantly with regional universities and research institutes to implement IP management and technology transfer solutions to support innovation. She is a part-qualified UK attorney with a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) from the University of Law, a Masters in Management of Intellectual Property Law and a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacology.
Tamara has been based in the Middle East since 2009. She has worked previously for the Qatar Foundation (QF), a non-profit organisation comprised of over 40 centres focused on developing human capital through education, research and community development. In the seven year period she spent at QF, Tamara played an instrumental role in the growth and establishment of IP management and technology transfer practices at the Foundation. She managed an IP audit of QF's research funding programs and was involved in the establishment of QF's IP & Technology Transfer office which was responsible for protecting and commercialising QF IP assets. Before leaving QF, Tamara led the IP Management group overseeing all activities related to IP disclosure, analysis and protection.
Prior to joining Gowling WLG's Dubai office, Tamara worked with a Dubai-based IP legal consulting firm for over four years. During her time there, she led the development of the patents practice and assisted inventors, start-ups, international companies and government entities in procuring patents locally, regionally and internationally. Tamara advised clients on how to establish IP management and technology transfer practices to support innovation, assisting a local government entity in establishing technology commercialisation, proof of concept and start-up programs. Tamara is one of the recommended individuals in the IAM Patent 1000 for the UAE for 2020 and 2021.
