Cristina Popa has a diploma in chemical engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. She also studied biochemistry at the University of Bucharest, and in 2000 obtained a PhD specialising in biological sciences and biotechnology from the same university. Ms Popa worked as a research scientist in the biosynthesis department at the National Institute for Chemical- Pharmaceutical R&D in Bucharest for 12 years. She joined Rominvent SA in 2000. She has been a Romanian patent attorney since 2000 and a European patent attorney since 2003. Ms Popa is a member of the National Chamber of Industrial Property Attorneys in Romania (CNCPIR) and a member of the Romanian branch of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). In 2007 she was designated by the European Patent Institute (EPI) to tutor Romanian patent attorneys regarding the changes brought about by the European Patent Convention 2000. She is also the Romanian representative on the EPI Biotech Committee.
