A patent holder can enforce its rights throughcivil proceedings, criminal proceedings and/orcustoms actions. Civil proceedings are probably the mosteffective, as they give the patent holder accessto specialised IP judges (in most cases) andtrained technical experts. In addition, theplaintiff in civil proceedings has significantcontrol over the course of the trial, compared tocriminal proceedings. Preliminary injunctionsare available in order to stop the infringement, pending a final decision on the merits.
