Cost of patent disputes

The recent ratification of the LondonAgreement on Translations will reduce thecosts of obtaining patent rights in Europe byreducing translation requirements. However,it will remain the case that once a patent isgranted by the European Patent Office (EPO),it will become a bundle of national patentrights in each of the European countries thatthe patentee designates; it is not a singlepan-European patent. If the patentee thenwishes to enforce those rights, it will needto bring proceedings in each of thoseEuropean territories in which the infringer isoperating.
