Edward G Black is co-head of Ropes & Gray’s technology, media and telecommunications group. Mr Black has over 20 years of experience with transactions involving the acquisition, sale or strategic management of assets and businesses focused on technology, data, media, brands and related assets, representing both businesses and investors.

Mr Black has represented companies operating in the fields of technology, media and telecommunications, investment management and consumer branded products in both the management of strategic intangible assets and transactions related to strategic intangible assets. These transactions include mergers, acquisitions, asset transactions, joint ventures and alliances, collaborations, licensing and other arrangements. Mr Black’s clients include financial services organisations, engineering driven companies, hedge funds, investment managers, technology companies, consumer branded product companies, healthcare management organisations, media organisations and private equity investors.

Mr Black also regularly represents strategic operating companies in connection with the creation and management of intellectual assets in ways that optimise value through various means, including best practice rights management, alliances, licensing, co-venturing, asset sales or debt-based financing, holding company strategies and other arrangements.

Mr Black remains active in a number of trade and professional associations, where he is also a regular speaker on intellectual property, media and technology and the purchase, sale and operation of businesses built around proprietary rights.
