Senior Director, Licensing and Strategy - Via Licensing Corporation

Nicholas Dudziak is a senior director of global licensing and strategic initiatives at Via Licensing Corporation, a subsidiary of US audio pioneer Dolby Laboratories. Mr Dudziak has successfully negotiated key licenses for both Via’s LTE patent pool and Via’s audio patent pool, including breakthrough deals with some of the largest Chinese and Taiwanese companies, including Lenovo, Xiaomi and ASUSTeK.

Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, Mr Dudziak was also instrumental in crafting Via’s alternative royalty rate structures the first in the world aimed at meeting the needs of emerging market and small business product makers.

Before joining Via in early 2016, Mr Dudziak was a partner at Global IP Law Group, LLC, a firm recognised as The Best Intellectual Property Law Firm in North America by World Finance in 2015. There, he acted as lead counsel in patent monetisation deals, including licensing, patent divestiture, and assertion programmes; he also successfully closed more than 50 transactions in a three-year timeframe. Mr Dudziak has represented clients in all phases of patent infringement litigation and provided patent portfolio management counselling, opinions and valuations. He has also provided analyses of pending and prospective litigation matters for private equity firms and litigation funders.

Mr Dudziak was named an Illinois Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2015 and 2016, and is a frequent speaker on IP issues at Bloomberg BNA and other venues. He holds a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois, a JD from the John Marshall Law School and is registered to practise before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
