Matthew Wahlrab - Innovative Foundations
Matthew Wahlrab is a patent-value extraction specialist with a demonstrated track record of developing lucrative patent portfolios and delivering value to patent holders. At Innovative Foundations he divides his time between portfolio developing, patent analysis and leading patent monetisation programmes.
During his 15 years in intellectual property Mr Wahlrab developed processes by which:
- patent assets are drafted, filed and classified into technology themes;
- technology themes are mapped to relevant industries; and
- decisions are made to pursue subject matter with the greatest impact.
Assets are culled or placed in strategic prosecution programmes to pursue the subject matter with the greatest market impact, saving clients’ resources by avoiding unnecessary ongoing prosecution costs. Issued patents are placed into product development, or Innovative Foundation’s patent sales, licensing or new company start-up programmes. These programmes provide clients with product protection, cash, royalty streams and equity in new companies based on their intellectual property in exchange for their initial IP investment.
Mr Wahlrab has also developed the Anchor Partner Programme, which promotes patented technologies in under-served markets. Through the programme his team licenses emerging companies to patented technologies. The emerging companies are partnered with large entities who receive innovative solutions, the emerging company receives revenue, the patent holder receives a royalty from the emerging company and partner venture capitalists enjoy a low-risk investment in the emerging company.
Before founding Innovative Foundations, Mr Wahlrab spent over a decade drafting, prosecuting and developing patent portfolios for top US academic institutions, think tanks and technology companies before managing monetisation opportunities for the Invention Science Fund for nearly five years. He pursued a double biology major and was a sixth-year senior when he received a full scholarship to complete his BS in electrical engineering technology. He went on to obtain his MBA with an emphasis in finance.
