Director, Analytics for Asia - CPA Global

Matthew Luby is the director of analytics for Asia at CPA Global, a world-leading IP technology company. He is responsible for working with a wide variety of research institutions, private companies and public entities across the IP spectrum. He led CPA Global’s analytics team from 2007 to 2015, expanding the team to Asia and Europe. He is an expert at technology analytics for corporate R&D and patent portfolio management and is committed to helping companies realise value from their innovation.

Mr Luby has managed over 400 patent landscapes and dozens of patent portfolio analysis engagements that involved defining the competitive, technical landscape through detailed data collection, an application of analytical frameworks and the reporting of competitive takeaways for CPA Global customers. These projects have spanned all technological industries, including polymer chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, implants and medical devices, power-generating devices, wireless communications, computing and storage technologies, artificial intelligence and automotive technologies. He has also designed a novel approach to consulting R&D organisations on detecting white space from patent and industry data.

Mr Luby has lectured extensively on patent analytics landscapes around the world and is the author of numerous articles. Before joining CPA Global he was a patent examiner at the US Patent and Trademark Office for eight years. He holds a JD from George Washington University Law School and a BS in mechanical engineering from the Catholic University of America.
