Vice President, Patent Transaction Services - TechInsights

Art Monk is vice president, patent transaction services at TechInsights, where he is responsible for facilitating high-value patent divestment and procurement transactions involving clients in Japan, the United States, Taiwan, China and Europe.

Mr Monk’s contribution to the buy-side and sell-side engagements that he oversees is his range of international contacts and the breadth of deals that he has structured for TechInsights clients. His team of patent transaction professionals provide evidence of use documentation and reverse engineering data, which clients use to support the value of their patent assets in both brokered transactions and monetisation programmes.

Before TechInsights, Mr Monk was CEO of Inflexion Point Analytics, an entity focused on large-scale patent transactions and the patent analytics needed to support their brokerage. He has been active in patent brokerage for over 14 years and resides in Silicon Valley, where he held marketing and product management roles in technology leaders and start-up ventures before his company was acquired by TechInsights. At Hewlett-Packard, he facilitated the creation of the company’s value-added reseller channel; and at ROLM Corporation he rose to the level of group product manager, overseeing the company’s telecommunications switching products.

Mr Monk has technical and research experience in electron microscopy, solid-state physics, computer simulation and systems modelling through research work at the University of Manitoba and the University of Alberta. He holds a BSc (hons) in physics, an MSc in biophysics from the University of Manitoba and an MBA in operations research from the University of Alberta, where he also completed graduate research in solid-state physics.

Mr Monk has been quoted and published in IAM World Intellectual Property Review, IP Watchdog, World IP Market Review and Second Market Alchemy, and has been an invited speaker on webinars and at conferences where he has spoken and moderated sessions on IP monetisation.
