Indonesia

Patents are notoriously hard to enforce in Indonesia and litigation is therefore thin on the ground; prosecution and transactions dominate patent activity in the country. New laws enacted in August 2016 introduced several procedural adjustments and introduced an alternative avenue for dispute resolution: the Appeal Commission Authority. Intended to invigorate the national patent system, these changes have unintentionally caused confusion regarding their implementation; the collection of annuity fees is a case in point. More positively, the patent office continues to strive for greater efficiency and has hired many new examiners in recent years.
