RYUKA IP is a law firm led by IP professionals with diverse backgrounds in many technical fields and expertise in a variety of jurisdictions. Our clients can always expect a prompt response, and we have always demonstrated professionalism to meet our clients’ needs and expectations.
Our policy is to provide clients with proactive suggestions for obtaining more valid patents.
RYUKA has experienced rapid growth since its foundation in 1998. We now serve clients around the world for patent, trademark and design prosecutions, licence negotiations, opinions and IP litigations.
At RYUKA, we focus on proactive communication, attention to detail and rapid turnaround. It is these values, as well as our emphasis on client objectives, that have ensured our continued success and growth. Despite the global recession, we represented a record number of patent applications in 2009. During the course of the year, over 260 patent applications were transferred to us from various major Japanese law firms.
Our mission is to be leaders in contributing to society by protecting the new businesses of our clients.
Our key practice areas include patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, designs, utility models and litigation, specialising in electronics, telecommunications, software, optics, mechanical engineering, semiconductors, electronic materials and chemicals.
International IP services
In cooperation with our international associates, we assist our clients in filing applications all over the world. Our international associates are among the most respected firms in the world.
In addition to having the legal skills required to practise patent law, our patent attorneys have significant experience as professional engineers and scientists in their respective fields.
Examples of services offered by our patent prosecution team are as follows:
- conducting prior art searches;
- preparing patent applications;
- providing legal consultation on the strengths and weaknesses of a patent;
- prosecuting interference contests to resolve invention priority; and
- drafting and negotiating licence agreements.
Patent visualisation is an inventing strategy aimed at systematically developing ideas from an early stage to optimise the chances of filing patent applications at the critical time before market growth.
Patent translation services
RYUKA offers English-to-Japanese translations of the highest quality at a reasonable cost.
RYUKA is qualified for IP litigation in Japan. We routinely represent foreign clients at the Tokyo District Court, the Osaka District Court and the IP High Court in patent infringement cases.
Opinions and licensing
We strive to provide extra value to our clients.
For infringement opinions, we not only analyse the product in its current form, but propose modifications to the products that fall outside the scope of the patentee’s claims more safely.
The most important ability for drafting licensing agreements is to anticipate changes in the business environment. Rather than drafting from a pure legal perspective, we study trends in the business environment and consult our clients for providing contract documents that will work advantageously in the future.
Our client list is extensive and varied, including well-established domestic and international companies, smaller start-up organisations and individual inventors. We aim to provide universally high-quality service to all companies, regardless of their size or status, in an effort to contribute to the realisation of their full business potential. Clients range from hands-on companies that research and develop ideas, to international law firms for whom we open doors to the Japanese IP system. The quality of our client list and the strength of our client relationships attest to the quality and dedication of our staff.
